Spirit of Democracy 2021

Spirit of Democracy 2021

The Second Annual Spirit of Democracy Celebration & Banquet will be held on November 6, 2021, at the Osage Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. As we commemorate the 160th Anniversary of the founding of the Stars and Stripes, our nation’s military newspaper, we want you to join us in celebration.

During this year’s event, we have partnered with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society to celebrate our nation’s Medal of Honor recipients. We will feature their heroic stories and celebrate the bravery of a group of Americans whose actions have defined the words “courage” and “selfless service.” Throughout the evening, you will be reminded of the values embodied by the Medal of Honor and invited to find ways to model courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism.

Major General Cassie Strom will be the host for the evening; Medal of Honor Recipient, James McCloughan will be our keynote speaker; and the Jerry Ford Orchestra will be playing patriotic and big band music.

The region of Southeast Missouri played a large role at the beginning of the Stars and Stripes. During the Civil War, ten Union soldiers used the Bloomfield Herald offices to print the first Stars and Stripes publication.

The mission of the National Stars and Stripes Museum & Library is the documentation, preservation, and communication of the iconic story of the Stars and Stripes newspaper and the commitment and service of the Stripers, our military, and everyday citizens.

The Museum means a lot to us here in Southeast Missouri. All visitors get free admission, free guided tours, free kid’s activities, youth programs, special events, school tours, research support services, library services, educational workshops, free access to the Stars & Stripes archives, and access to our historical Stars & Stripes newspapers. Since the Museum is privately funded, we rely heavily on our Spirit of Democracy fundraising event. It helps support the Museum and keep our doors open five days a week.

If you would like to become a member of the Museum or attend the banquet, we would greatly appreciate the support. As a $1000 table sponsor of this event, you and your guests will receive a Stars & Stripes Commitment and Service pin, a commemorative certificate, membership to the National Stars and Stripes Museum & Library, your choice of a veteran or servicemember being honored on our Facebook page, and an ad in the Southeast Missourian listing all the table sponsors.

We invite you to partner with us by sponsoring a table of 8 for $1000. We are excited to showcase the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s Medal of Honor Recipients as we celebrate 160 years of Stars and Stripes. We hope we can count on your support.

To reserve a table, please call the Museum at 573-568-2055 or visit https://donorbox.org/spirit-of-democracy-2021-1.
