I worked for the paper from December 1990 until December 2013. A civilian journalist from the Chicago area, I joined Stripes shortly before the Gulf War started and was assigned to the copy desk in Griesheim, Germany. Starting in early 1992, I moved over to the reporters’ side and transferred to the Kaiserslautern bureau to cover U.S. Air Forces in Europe.
