The National Stars and Stripes Museum and Library is the only museum in the United States dedicated to the history of our nation’s military newspaper.
Exhibits
Through exhibits and programs, the National Stars and Stripes Museum/Library offers a unique and important view of some of the most pivotal moments in modern history. The Museum highlights the history of the Stars and Stripes from the very first issue, printed by Union troops in November 1861, through the wars of the 20th century, and into the modern era.
The Civil War Room
On November 9, 1861, Union troops printed the first edition of the Stars and Stripes newspaper. Learn more about the reasons behind the paper’s publication and other editions printed during the Civil War.
The WWI Room
Entering via our replica WWI trench, Visitors will learn more about the main editors, the cartoonists, and some of the Doughboy poetry printed in the WWI Stars and Stripes.
WWII Section
In this section, the exhibits focus on the Battle of the Bulge, the Invasion of Normandy, and Striper Spotlights.
Korean War Section
This exhibit features a former Striper, Frank Praytor, and the doorknob from the Peace Pagoda.
