Join us for Kids Day at the Museum: Propaganda Posters of WW1 and WW2 on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10am to 2pm at The Stars and Stripes National Museum and Library. This event is open to the public and admission is FREE.
This interactive learning event will offer a unique opportunity for young minds to dive into the artistic techniques and historical contexts of propaganda posters, particularly focusing on the U.S.’s involvement in World War 1 and World War 2 and comparing American and European approaches.
Activities Include:
- Interactive Poster Gallery: Walk through an engaging exhibition of iconic propaganda posters from the U.S. and Europe. Each poster will be analyzed to determine the meaning behind the message.
- Create Your Propaganda Poster: A hands-on workshop where kids can put their creativity to work and design their own posters. Guided by an artist, they’ll explore how to convey messages through art, drawing inspiration from the techniques used in historical posters.
- Discussion Sessions: Engage in captivating storytelling sessions that bring to life the stories behind some of the most influential propaganda posters. Discover the differences between American and European perspectives and how they reflected each society’s stance on war involvement.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the role of art in historical and social contexts.
- Recognize the influence of propaganda on public opinion during wars.
- Appreciate the differences and similarities between U.S. and European propaganda art.
- Develop critical thinking about the messages conveyed through art.
Special Notes:
- This event is designed for children in fourth through sixth grade (aged 9-12)
- All materials for the poster-making workshop will be provided.
- Parents are welcome to join their children in exploring the galleries and participating in discussion circles.
