On Monday, August 24, 2022, Jim Martin started the second half of the 23-day Stars and Stripes Cities Tour. He left Kalispell, Montana bright and early that morning; and despite the deer, rabbits, mountainous roads, construction stops, and sparsity of cell phone towers, he arrived safely in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to present a proclamation to Mayor Jim Hammond and City Administrator Troy Tymeson. To paraphrase Mayor Hammond, “it’s tremendously important that we bring folks together in our communities, especially in these fraught times, to partner to encourage commitment and service to others.”
Later that afternoon, it was on to Spokane, Washington where Mr. Martin presented a Stars and Stripes proclamation to Mayor Nadine Woodward. The presentation ceremony was held in front of the local veterans memorial at the Spokane Arena. They met with a number of local citizens and talked about the importance of our communities truly partnering to embrace informed citizenship, commitment, and service.
