March Kids Day at the Museum: WWII Weekend

SATURDAY, MARCH 23, 2024
10 AM – 4 PM

Join us for our March Kids Day at the Museum: WWII Weekend on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 10am to 4pm. This family-friendly event is perfect for history buffs of all ages and offers a unique opportunity to explore the daily lives of soldiers during the Second World War. This event is open to the public and admission is free.

The centerpiece of the weekend is our iconic Big Red Barn, which will be transformed into a living history exhibit. As you wander through, you’ll discover meticulously recreated scenes from a WWII barracks, complete with the bunks where soldiers rested. Peek into the medic station, where heroes were tended to, and the clerk’s room, where the important business of war was conducted. Explore the supply room, brimming with authentic gear and equipment, and don’t forget to visit the mess kitchen, where you can almost smell the aroma of meals served to the troops.

Outside, WWII vehicles roar to life, offering a rare glimpse into the machinery that powered the war effort. Feel the ground shake beneath your feet as these historic engines rev up, and imagine the determination of those who drove them into battle.

The air will crackle with excitement as reenactors stage living history battles or skirmishes, demonstrating the tactics and bravery of soldiers in combat. These vivid reenactments will captivate your imagination and transport you to the front lines, providing a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made during this monumental time in history.

Whether you’re a young child or simply young at heart, this event promises an educational and engaging experience for everyone. Join us as we pay tribute to the Greatest Generation and learn about the history that shaped our world.

Our monthly Kids Day at the Museum program is sponsored by The Boys and Girls Club of the Heartland, the Dexter Kiwanis Club, and the Sikeston Kiwanis Club.
